At Home Workout for New Moms

Question: I'm a new mom to a 4 month old girl. I used to be in great shape about two years ago. I worked out pretty regularly. The year before and during my pregnancy were lacking in workout. I am now trying to lose about 30 lbs. I have developed some bad habits as far as eating and exercising. I try to work out at the gym a couple of times a week, but it is really impossible. What do you recommend? I need a simple, fast, and non-boring workout targeting my gut, butt, and hips. Pam

Answer: Hi Pam! It sounds like you know which habits you have that are holding you back. You mentioned your food and exercise habits are lacking. There's no easy solution. If it's hard to exercise because of the baby, I would recommend purchasing a babyjogger. They're like a stroller, but very sturdy with relatively big soft wheels that absorb shock. You can go out and exercise, plus babies LOVE to ride in them. Regarding your eating habits, you just have to use discipline. One good way is to plan what you're going to eat at the beginning of the day. You could even go ahead and prepare it in the morning when you have a few minutes to save time and effort. It sounds like you know what it is that's unhealthy that you're eating, so get it out of the house asap. Also, write down everything you eat for a week. This will increase your awareness of what goes in your mouth. If you find yourself eating when you're not hungry, realize that that food goes right to your fat cells to be stored. Good luck!
