Can You Stretch Everyday

Question: I have just recently begun a strength training program to try to lose weight. I have read several places that it is not a good idea to do the strength training daily due to the microscopic tears to the muscles that have to repair themselves. My question is this: If you can't do the strength training daily is it okay to do the stretching daily? Thank you for your help. Great website, especially for us beginners. Wendy

Answer: Wendy, Daily stretching is fine. In fact, it's very much recommended. You're not breaking down the muscle, you're just lengthening the fibers. Just be careful not to overstretch - stop when you feel the stretch.
