Question: After not going camping for 2 yrs due to work, I trained at the gym for 2 months and then went backpacking recently. I carried a 45 lb pack for 11 miles and my right knee hurt so much after 6 miles that I had to rely on a hiking staff big time. It's been 2 weeks now and I did not do any exercises, but really need to hit the cardio. Yesterday I ran on the treadmill and after 1 mile the knee hurt big time. I had to switch to the elliptical, and it was OK. What should I do? Angus
Answer: Angus, Have a physical therapist look at your knee. It could be a really simple problem to solve, or it could be more serious which could cause chronic problems. The faster you do this, the better.
