Exercise for Different Body Types

Question: I've heard that certain body types should focus on doing certain types of exercises & avoid others. I have a pear-shaped body (fat ALWAYS goes to my thighs, buttocks, and stomach) and I've heard, for instance, that my body type should avoid exercises like squats. Is this true? RB

Answer: RB, For your body type, I would recommend lots of moderate intensity cardiovascular exercise. You should do low weights, with many repetitions, on squats and leg press -- but don't avoid them altogether. Strength training large muscle groups will help your body to burn more calories daily by raising your metabolism.
