Exercising after Quitting Smoking

Question: Hi, I just quit smoking three months ago and started exercising two weeks ago. I am doing aerobics and weight training, My question, my heart rate goes 10-15 beats over my target heart rate. Is this dangerous? I'm tired after the video but feel ok. Any advice would be appreciated. megan

Answer: Dear megan, Since you just started exercising, it will be easy for your heart rate to get pretty high, but you're not in a dangerous zone. Try to just back off a little by lowering the intensity of your workout - keep your arms below your shoulders while doing aerobics. On some days per week, try a walking workout for a lower heart rate and more control over it. See the Articles section for more about heart rate zones.
