Top 3 Things Fitness and Dating Have in Common

There's no denying that online dating brought us many fun and innovative things, such as finding love from the comfort of our computer chair and introducing us to different niches like transgender dating and dating a widower.

However, this fairly modern concept has more than one similarity to a tradition many people still hold dear – working out. In that name, let's take a look at the top 3 things fitness and dating have in common.

1. Bringing People Together

While this point is pretty obvious when it comes to dating, inexperienced gym-goers may have a hard time seeing how fitness brings people together.

For starters, working out is always more fun when you have at least one gym buddy. You get motivated more easily and doing those last couple of reps will feel more like a challenge and less like a burden when you have someone to accompany you.

Furthermore, some fitness disciplines require you to spend time in a group. These include spin classes, Crossfit, and more. Finally, some heavy-duty exercises simply demand that you have one or more spotters to help you and ensure you don't get injured.

2. Looking Good

Everyone who ever went on at least one date knows that that a person's appearance is of utmost importance. The way you look, your posture, body language – everything counts. This is one of the biggest similarities dating has with fitness, as the latter puts an immense accent on improving your outer self.

Going to the gym can get pretty boring if you don't have a goal in mind. For most people, the mission is to lose those extra pounds, put on a six-pack and get in shape. Even those who couldn't care less about their appearance still come out looking better than before after spending some time hitting the weights or running on the treadmill.

3. Overcoming Obstacles

Finally, we have adaptability as the final similarity between dating and fitness. It manifests a bit differently in these two cases, but it's undoubtedly still there.

When it comes to dating, whether it's online or offline, there are times when we either come across a wall someone has put in front of us or we get downright rejected. Sometimes we can make certain moves to overcome these obstacles, while on other occasions there's virtually nothing we can do about it, so we just have to move on.

These scenarios can also be found in working out. When someone “hits a plateau” in the gym, it means they've been working out in such a way that they now cannot move forward with their exercises. Also, some people can find themselves completely unable to perform an exercise for months on end, despite the fact that they're physically fit and that their strength and endurance are constantly improving.

Both fitness and dating teach us how to recognize, adapt to and overcome an obstacle once we encounter it. It's truly an invaluable lesson that can be applied to many situations in our lives.
