How Long to Spend on Gym Equipment

Question: I am starting a new exercise program using an air glider, health rider and a treadmill. I need to know how long I should use each piece of equipment for maximum results. I currently use the air walker 10 minutes, rider 5 minutes and treadmill 10 minutes. I also would like to use weights but do not have a program. sunstar

Answer: Dear sunstar: For maximum results, work out on cardio for 30 minutes to an hour, allowing yourself at least one rest day per week. Try to stay on the Healthrider five more minutes for now and then increase the time on each machine as you improve, to keep your workouts interesting. Controlling your intensity is the key in making a workout worthwhile. There's a great Beginner's weights program on the Articles section and, if you don't have weights at home, try the In-Home version using stuff you have in the house already. Good luck!
