How to Get Stronger without Getting Bigger

Question: Hi, I am at present doing a strength training programme, however I am 5'2" tall, and quite stocky now. Do you know how I can just increase strength and profile of muscles without increasing their size significantly? At present I do 2 sets of 15 reps with failure on 12-15 rep of the second set. Is there a better technique than this for my goal? Joe

Answer: Hi Joe I would advise more aerobic activity to reduce the fat on top of the muscles. This will decrease their size and make them look more "defined". If you reduce your weight and increase reps (don't worry about hitting muscle failure), you should reach a good level of maintenance.
