Lose Weight Without a Gym

Question: Help! I am a single mother who works 8-10 hours a day. I live in a small town that doesn't have a fitness center of any kind. The nearest one is over an hour away. I am unhappy with the weight I am gaining. What would you suggest for people like us? Karen

Answer: Karen, You can still start your own cardiovascular program: go for a walk, a run, or a bike ride for 20-30 minutes each day to start off. Then you can increase time gradually and eventually increase intensity. If you can't leave the house, because you're a single mother, consider investing in a treadmill or stationary bike. For strength training, please see the in-home workout, with explanations on how to perform the exercises in the articles section.
