Arm Toning Exercises for Females

Question: Hi. I am 21 years old and looking for some good arm exercises to get my arms toned in a couple of months. I am medium build and weigh 128 and am 5'3. I run 3-4 miles a day and need something that is really going to tone me up. Thank you, Crhill

Answer: Dear Crhill: The best thing you can do for the next couple of months is increase your miles (up 1 per week) until you can run 5-to-6 miles at a time. Then do this 5 days per week with lots of stretching. This will help to avoid overuse injuries since this is relatively high mileage for you. Then for your arms, just stick to the basics: dumbbell biceps curls, triceps kickbacks and pressdowns, lateral shoulder raises (then change angles to isolate your rear deltoids for an equal number of reps to balance you out). "Toning" is more a result of losing fat than building more muscle, so keep consistent with your cardio and eat healthily.
