High Protein Foods for Breakfast
Question: I have recently been advised that my body responds better to eating a higher percentage of proteins than carbohydrates in terms of weight loss and fitness results. I would like to increase the amount of lean protein in my diet but am having trouble locating a list of good lean protein foods to include in my diet, especially foods for breakfast. Can you help? Linda
Answer: Dear Linda, For breakfast, you can have egg substitute or egg whites -- even whole eggs, as long as your diet is generally low-fat, 5 grams of fat (for one egg) is not that much. You can make an egg substitute omelet with a little low-fat cheese and even a slice of chicken or turkey in there. I like low-fat cottage cheese with frozen blueberries and a few sunflower seeds mixed in. My favorite high-protein, non-fat breakfast food is Gimme Lean imitation sausage. I make a sandwich using it pan-fried into a pattie with one egg and toasted Vogel bread. You can find these products at a Whole Foods or other health food store.
