How to Increase Muscle Tone
Question: In a previous message you indicated that "toning" involves reducing fat in a particular area. Toning involves strengthening and increasing muscle size, as well as reducing fat. - Greg
Answer: You're right, Greg, both are important. And I think I said the same thing in my response, but I give priority to the importance of fat loss over muscle building in "toning". (In fact, I try to avoid the word "toning" because it causes such confusion). Many of my clients and even many trainers I talk to think that they'll get toned by lifting more, but rarely mention the importance of cardio and diet. Their muscles will get bigger, but until the layer of fat over the muscles is burned off, you'll never see if they're "toned" or not. Thanks for clarifying!
