Lowering Body Fat Percentage for Women

Question: I am female, 5'10, of medium bone structure, weighing 162. In July '99, I began a serious strength training program 2-3 times a week and I do (and have been doing for 2 years) 30-45 minutes cardio workouts (usually 45 minutes) 3-5 times a week. I eat very healthfully avoiding all excess fats and sugars. According to the device at the gym where I belong, my body fat is 18%. I wish to lose 12 more pounds weighing 150. Is this goal attainable? Thank you for your time! I love this website! eeejay

Answer: Dear eeejay, 18% is a great body fat percentage for a female. Losing 12 more pounds will put you at around 9-10%, which is unacceptably low for women. Your goal is not attainable without being unhealthy.
